Memoirs of a DIVA Week 6: Out with the Old, In with the New…

Updated: Aug 23, 2021

An exercise within D.I.V.A. University is to get rid of everything associated with or holds the energy of your ex. Gifts, lingerie, items you bought together, etc.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I had a few things from the last relationship I still needed to remove from my life. I was with my ex for (8) years and in that time we acquired quite a bit of stuff together. As time went on, more items came to mind.

We were still sharing: streaming service accounts (his mom was even on one of mine), a few random items of his that were found in the most random places, furniture, and many other items.

I tried to remain applicable with my ex after our breakup, not understanding that I was holding onto him in more ways than I thought. This is a surefire way to block yourself from attracting your soulmate. I am not going to let ANYTHING get in the way of the true love I deserve to experience, so I knew I had more work to do.

For years, I wanted to leave my last relationship but feared the unknown. I feared the idea of truly being alone. I feared having to do everything by myself without help financially. That fear stayed with me up until I started this exercise. My human need, certainty, was hindering me greatly. I truly needed to trust that God would take care of me.

One monumental task I was determined to clear out and separate: the storage unit (that he paid for) where my stuff was stored. On a hot summer Friday, I unloaded everything from the unit and slowly unpacked not only my past relationship but my past that I held onto. I didn’t need nor didn’t I want to embrace facets of my old life. I am a new person on and new journey.

You cannot attract the love God has for you, without releasing yourself from your past.

I have made the decision to start over completely. I got rid of my underwear, bras, and old clothes. I want to move forward with a fresh start.

I write this blog entry to say a couple of things:

  • Start Fresh: The idea of getting rid of old may seem like a daunting task, but energy is everything. Holding onto energy from past relationships can impede your blessings. This exercise is a perfect lesson…it will ensure that you make it a conscious effort to select the right person moving forward. Starting over is good, but it’ll cost you a lot of time, energy, and money.

  • D.I.V.A University is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made: Not only has worked with Shay been an amazing experience, but also the beautiful women I’ve met. Women empowerment is everything for women, and this program is all of that and more.
